Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know - before you take the first step.

WILCOX Training

What is the cost of your training programs?
Our pricing is based on your level of commitment and the type of training you choose. The longer your commitment, the more cost-effective your monthly rate becomes - we do this because our goal is to work with you in the long term to help you get long-term results.

Here’s a general idea of what to expect:
  • Group Personal Training (most popular option):
    • With a 12-month commitment, the rate is around $225 per month (billed every four weeks).
    • Rates increase for shorter commitments, with options at 6-month and 3-month levels.

  • Private Personal Training:
    • With a 12-month commitment for three sessions per week, the rate is around $675/month. Private training is typically about three times the cost of group training.
  • Kickstart Program:
    • This is our four-week onboarding program for new clients and includes training, coaching, and nutrition support.
    • The cost is $550 for the 4-week program.

We can walk through all your options during your call and help you choose the path that fits your goals and lifestyle best.

How do your training programs work?
We are a private personal training facility where every session is led by a certified personal trainer who handles everything for you - from the plan to the pacing to personalized coaching. You’ll never be left to figure it out on your own.

What makes our training unique:
  • Every session is different. We don’t repeat workouts, which keeps things fresh, fun, and most importantly - effective. This variety challenges your body in new ways and prevents plateaus.

  • Everything is customized to you. Whether you're brand new or experienced, every session is tailored to your ability level. You won’t be pushed to lift the heaviest or go the fastest. Instead, we’ll coach you to move well and perform each movement with great technique - so you get just a little bit better every single time.

  • You’re always progressing safely. Our focus is on building strength, confidence, and long-term results - not just burning calories or going through the motions.

This is personal training reimagined: high-level coaching in a supportive setting, designed to meet you exactly where you are.

How often do clients typically train?
Most of our clients train three times per week - and that really is the sweet spot for building strength, feeling better, and seeing incredible results.

Each session is just 45 minutes, so it fits easily into a busy schedule - and you’d be amazed what that consistent rhythm can do for your energy, confidence, and quality of life.

Some private training clients start with two sessions per week (our minimum), especially if they’re easing back into movement or managing old injuries. That’s totally okay - we’ll help you build from wherever you are.

The key isn’t doing more. It’s doing what works - consistently, safely, and with real support.

What type of training do you offer (group vs. one-on-one)?
We offer two core training options at WILCOX - both designed to give you personal coaching, a clear plan, and support you can count on.

  • Small Group Training (Most Popular): This is the heart of what we do - and where most people begin. You’ll train in a small group, guided the entire time by a certified personal trainer who personalizes the session to fit you. Every training session is designed to help you move better, get stronger, and build confidence - without ever feeling lost or left behind.
  • KickStart Program: Our KickStart Program rolls up underneath our small group personal training program, and it is a 4-week introductory experience that helps new clients ease in, build momentum, and feel supported from day one. Once KickStart wraps up, clients who want to continue simply roll into our ongoing Small Group Personal Training program.
  • One-on-One Private Training: If you’re looking for more privacy or highly customized coaching, we also offer private personal training. These sessions are just you and your coach - and built entirely around your needs.

Note: Private training is currently on a waitlist in Bangor due to high demand unless your schedule is super flexible.

No matter the path, we’re here to meet you where you are and help you build something sustainable - for the long run.

What is the Kickstart Program and what does it include?

Kickstart is our signature four-week onboarding experience - designed specifically for new clients who want real support, real coaching, and a fresh start they can stick with.

We’ve been running this program for over 10 years, and it’s helped thousands of people feel better in their bodies, get back into a routine, and finally gain momentum that lasts.

Here’s what’s included in KickStart:
  • 3 Small Group Personal Training sessions per week
  • 1-on-1 Success Session with Paige (or your local business owner)
  • Kickoff Session (Optional but helpful if you can attend - many clients can’t make it, and that’s okay!)
  • 1-on-1 Momentum Session (Final Week)
  • Nutrition Support: A 30-day whole-foods-based meal plan with grocery lists and recipes
  • Weekly Accountability + Ongoing Support
  • The cost is $550 for the 4-week program.

SCHEDULING & COMMITMENTS

What are the commitment options? Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
We know that committing to something new can feel like a big step - and we’re here to make it feel doable, not overwhelming.

That’s why we offer flexible commitment options to meet you where you’re at:
  • 12-month: Our most cost-effective option, designed for long-term results
  • 6-month: For those ready to lean in a little more
  • 3-month: A great place to start if you're just testing the waters

Yes, each program comes with a commitment - but it’s about supporting your growth, not locking you in. If you start with a 3-month plan and realize you’ve found your people, you can upgrade to a longer commitment at any time and take advantage of lower monthly pricing.

Bottom line: we’re in this for the long game - but we’ll help you build that confidence one step at a time.

Wondering how this would work in your routine?
Book a quick call with our team and let’s talk through the options.
👉 Book Your Initial Call

How flexible is your schedule? Can I choose my own session times?
We offer 50+ sessions every week, starting as early as 5:30 AM and running almost every hour throughout the day. Our last session starts at 5:30 PM, so whether you’re an early riser or need to come after work, there’s something that fits.

There’s no need to commit to the same times each week. You simply log into our app and book the sessions that work best for you - on your terms.
  • Register up to an hour before the session
  • Mix and match times based on your daily routine
  • Cancel or reschedule easily if something comes up

It’s just one more way we make consistency easier - because life is busy, and your fitness routine should work with it, not against it.

What if I need to travel or miss a session?
From the moment you start, we automatically add “vacation sessions” to your account - enough to cover about two weeks of missed training throughout your commitment. You can use those extra sessions anytime down the line, so you’re never penalized for being away.

On top of that, we have a rollover system in place:
  • If you miss a week of training, those unused sessions automatically roll over into your account.
  • You can use them at any time in the future - whether it’s adding an extra session here and there or doubling up during a more flexible week.
  • The only rule: You can’t stockpile more than your regular weekly number of sessions at one time. That’s because the goal is consistency, not overloading or cramming.

So whether you’re traveling, dealing with a crazy week, or just need to shift your schedule, we’ve got you.
You won’t lose sessions, and you won’t lose progress.

Do sessions ever get fully booked, or do you run out of space?

It’s pretty rare - but it can happen from time to time.

We limit each session to 20 people to ensure a high-quality coaching experience. On average, sessions have around 11 participants, so there’s usually plenty of space.

That said, popular times can fill - especially during early mornings or after work. To avoid any hiccups and stay consistent, we recommend scheduling your sessions about a week in advance.

Are you open on weekends?
Yes - we offer Saturday morning sessions to help you stay on track through the weekend!

We are closed on Sundays, giving both clients and coaches a chance to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with family.

Can I change my membership level (e.g., from unlimited to 3x/week)?

Yes - you can absolutely adjust your membership as your needs or schedule change.
Whether you want to go from unlimited to 3x/week, or vice versa, we make it easy. You can make the switch at any time, even mid-month - and we’ll simply prorate your billing based on your new plan.

Our memberships run on a four-week billing cycle, so any adjustments will sync with that timing.

PERSONALIZATION & SUPPORT

Do you personalize training - especially for health issues, injuries, or specific goals?
Absolutely. Personalization is at the core of everything we do.

Our trainers know your name, your goals, your capabilities - and most importantly, any physical limitations you are working with. Whether you’re dealing with old injuries, managing a chronic condition, or just feeling unsure about what your body can handle, we’ve got you.

Every session is modified to meet you where you are. That means:
  • Movements are adjusted for your body and goals
  • We prioritize how you move, not how fast or how heavy
  • You’ll leave feeling better than when you walked in - not beaten down
We regularly support clients navigating:
  • Knee or hip replacements
  • Back pain or mobility issues
  • Fibromyalgia, diabetes, or heart conditions
  • Even limb loss or amputation
This isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about moving smarter - so you can feel strong, confident, and safe in your body again.

Can you help me with things like low energy, weight loss, muscle gain, balance, or pain?
Yes - absolutely. Our programs are specifically designed to help you feel better in your body, build strength safely, and make progress toward goals that actually matter to you.

Whether you're feeling stuck, sore, or simply out of sync - we’ve got you.

We regularly help clients:
  • Build strength and gain lean muscle
  • Improve flexibility and mobility
  • Reduce pain and nagging aches (hips, knees, back, shoulders, etc.)
  • Boost energy and fight chronic fatigue
  • Improve balance and reduce fall risk
  • Feel more confident in their bodies and movement
  • Lose weight in a sustainable, healthy way (without obsessing over the scale)
  • Create consistent routines that work in real life
  • Manage chronic conditions like Type 2 diabetes, heart issues, PCOS, fibromyalgia, polyneuropathy, myopathy, and more

You don’t have to “get in shape” first. You don’t have to know what to do. You just have to show up - and we’ll guide you from there.

What kind of nutrition support do you offer?
Nutrition is a huge part of getting real, lasting results - and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

That said, we’re not dietitians or nutritionists
, and we don’t prescribe meal plans or calorie targets. Instead, we focus on what actually matters:
helping you build sustainable, healthy habits that fit your real life.

Here’s what that looks like:
  • Simple, whole-food based guidance that’s easy to follow
  • Tools, resources, and strategies for making healthier choices - without restriction or overwhelm
  • Support and accountability from your coaching team
  • Tips for navigating real-life challenges like family dinners, travel, and a busy schedule

It’s not about perfection. It’s about progress - and finding what works for you, in a way you can actually stick with.

What if I'm new to exercising or haven't worked out in a long time?
You’re in exactly the right place.

Our programs are built for people who are new to exercise, just getting back into it, or coming off a long break. You won’t need to know what to do, how to move, or what weight to pick - we’ll guide you step by step.

You’ll never feel judged, rushed, or left behind.

Instead, you’ll feel
supported, encouraged, and able to move at a pace that’s right for you.

Many of our most successful clients started exactly where you are right now - and we’d be honored to help you take that first step.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

How long are the training sessions?
Our sessions are designed to be effective, efficient, and respectful of your time.

  • Group Personal Training sessions are 45 minutes long
  • Private Personal Training sessions are 30 minutes long

In both cases, we encourage clients to arrive 10–15 minutes early to go through our pre-training movement prep. This helps you warm up safely, check in with how your body is feeling, and get the most out of your session.

Don’t worry - we’ll show you exactly what to do. It’s all part of the experience and one more way we help you move confidently and feel your best.

What kind of exercises and equipment do you use?
We do things differently here - and that’s a good thing.
WILCOX is a functional training gym, which means our workouts are designed to help you move better in real life - not just lift weights for the sake of it. We focus on posture, breathing, biomechanics, and alignment to build strength that lasts - without causing pain or injury.
You won’t find rows of machines. Instead, we use tools that help your whole body move as a unit:
  • Ropes, tires, kettlebells, dumbbells, maces
  • Medicine balls, resistance bands, and TRX strap

Our training sessions fall into four core categories:
  • Strength & Conditioning
  • Strength Training Sessions
  • Boxing
  • Strength & Mobility

Each session is different - so you’ll stay engaged, challenged, and never bored. But no matter what’s on the plan, your trainer will guide you through it with care, clarity, and purpose.

What is the gym environment like? Will I feel comfortable there?
This is one of the most important questions you can ask - and we’ve built WILCOX specifically to be the opposite of everything people hate about typical gyms.

Our facility is welcoming, encouraging, and non-competitive. There are no mirrors, no egos, and no pressure to “keep up.” You’ll never be left to figure it out on your own.
We’ve created a space where:
  • Everyone feels seen, supported, and safe
  • Cleanliness is a top priority (we have professional cleaners 5 days a week)
  • The focus is on progress, not perfection
  • You’re surrounded by a community that gets it - and wants you to succeed

Clients often say it feels more like walking into a supportive team or family than a gym. And once you experience it, you’ll know exactly what they mean.

Is there a physical assessment during the consultation?

Nope - the initial consultation is purely a conversation, not a workout or physical assessment.
We’ve found that traditional industry assessments often feel intimidating and don’t actually provide much value for clients. So we’ve chosen to skip them.

LOCATION & FACILITY

Where is your facility located?
We have two WILCOX locations in Maine - each designed to be welcoming, accessible, and easy to find:

📍 Bangor
We’re located at 224 B Union Street, right on the corner of 3rd and Union Street, just up the hill from the Y.
We have a spacious parking lot on-site, and you’ll receive text and email reminders with the address before your first appointment so you feel confident walking through the door.

📍 Brunswick
You’ll find us at 275 Bath Road, Brunswick, right in the Cooks Corner Area.
There’s plenty of parking, and we’ll send directions via text and email as your appointment approaches.

Can I see the gym before signing up?
Yes - you’ll absolutely get to see the gym during your consultation or your KickStart Success Session.

When you book your onboarding, you’ll come into the facility, meet with a member of our team, and get a full look at the space. It’s a relaxed, no-pressure visit where you’ll have the chance to ask questions, get a feel for the environment, and see what makes our facility so unique.

We take immense pride in keeping our space clean, organized, and welcoming. Professional cleaners come in five days a week, and clients often comment on how comfortable and supported they feel from the moment they walk through the door.

ONBOARDING & DECISION-MAKING

What happens during the initial consultation?
Your initial consultation is a relaxed, one-on-one conversation designed to help us understand you - not a workout, so no need for gym clothes!

You’ll meet with one of our local business owners (often Paige or Allison, depending on the location), and the session usually lasts about an hour.

Here’s what you can expect:
  • A comfortable space to talk about your goals, lifestyle, and what’s brought you here
  • A chance to explore why those goals matter to you, so we can build a plan with real purpose behind it
  • A discussion around any past struggles or roadblocks - so we can set you up for success, not frustration
  • A clear, customized plan to help you feel confident starting
  • An overview of how our training programs work, and answers to all your questions

This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s a conversation focused on you - so you can decide if this is the right fit, with zero pressure.

Am I expected to make a decision about joining at the end of the consultation?

Yes - we ask that you come to your consultation ready to make a decision, one way or the other.

There’s no pressure either way. This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s simply about helping you move forward - with clarity.

This session is all about building momentum, and making a clear decision is a powerful first step. If it feels like the right fit, we’ll help you get started. If not, that’s totally okay too. You’ll walk away with a better understanding of what you need - whether it’s with us or somewhere else.

We’re here to support your progress, not push you into something you’re not ready for.

What happens if I decide the program isn't right for me after I've started?

We believe so deeply in the value of what we do that we offer a Happiness Guarantee.

If you participate all of your training sessions within two weeks and decide the program isn’t for you - for any reason - we’ll cancel your commitment.

In almost 13 years of business, we’ve rarely had to use this guarantee - which says a lot about how well our programs work and how much care we put into supporting every client’s success.
Your peace of mind matters to us. We want you to feel confident in your decision - and supported every step of the way.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

The next step in our process is to schedule a quick initial call with our team.

  • Learn more about you, your goals, and your current lifestyle
  • Talk about why those goals matter to you
  • Walk you through how our training program works
  • Answer your questions and make sure it feels like a good fit

If it seems like we’re aligned, we’ll invite you in for an Initial Consultation or to join KickStart to dive deeper and create your personalized plan.
