We are so excited to announce the 2018 total of our Check-Ins for Charity program! Last year our clients checked in to our facility over 2,300 times, donating a total of $934.40 to Sarah's House! A special thank you to all of our clients that participated in Check-Ins for Charity and showed their support for this incredible organization! Sarah’s House provides a 'comfortable home away from home' for cancer patients and their caregivers while they are receiving cancer treatments in the Bangor area. It has been a place of hope and healing for more than 287 guests from 14 of Maine’s 16 counties. In just 4 years, Sarah’s House has saved guests over 550,000 miles of travel to and from treatments. We are so thrilled to continue this partnership between our clients and Sarah's House and we look forward to seeing what 2019 will bring! Together we do more good! Here is how our check-in for charity program works – every time a client checks in to Wilcox Wellness & Fitness on Facebook we will provide a donation to Sarah’s House. We will tally up all the check-ins on a monthly basis and cut a check directly to Sarah’s House. Happy Training!

Wow! How time flies when you are having fun! I want to touch on something that I noticed: If I am not diligent on getting to the store on the weekend and taking the time to prep my meals, it can lead to a disaster for my week. Initially I thought the nutrition side was going to be easy, but I may “eat” my words on this. It is fairly easy to understand the “whole food“ aspect but if you don’t have time to implement it by making time to get to the store to get the essentials and then preparing the food... Uh oh watch out. I realized very quickly that I need to make time to go get my groceries, just like I make time to go to the gym - both are equally important. For breakfast, I drink a Mojo and have a smoothie every morning. The key for me again, is to make time to go to the store. No morning mojo or smoothie if you don’t have the ingredients. When you don’t have the ingredients or the time to make healthy meals, it can be so easy to reach for something fast and unhealthy. I learned that firsthand! By not having fresh veggies or fruit, or any whole foods on hand to eat, it’s very easy to slide into the old habit of ordering a pizza at night; which used to be my staple about 3 to 4 times a week. In the last 12 weeks, I have only ordered 2 small pizzas, so I will still take that as a win. I will say that when I follow the nutrition I feel a lot better! I can tell you that I have noticed the “bloat” go away, I am not retaining my water as much, and my energy levels are coming back, and yes the weight is starting to come off slowly. When I introduce sugars, ahhh not so good, my energy levels go down, my workouts are harder to attend, and I can’t give the 100% that I need to be giving. So I am making it a point to get to the store each week and make my food the night before. My food game is back on and I am going to WIN!! Will I slip again? Maybe, but I know the effects it has on me, so I will try to stay diligent as possible. Another reason to stay on track? Well it was brought to my attention by one of my trainers, and I guess I did not really pay attention to it, but my recuperation time to get my breath back during workouts is getting shorter! I am getting stronger. I am getting healthier. One step, one day at a time. Stay healthy and be safe! I have a love/hate relationship with exercise. I can go for months on a healthy exercise regimen that I truly like and then get easily side-swept into a different direction of unhealthy habits. Why? Because it is easier to fail. Excuses as to why I am not exercising are easy to come up with: Work is busy, kids have sports, a dinner meeting, folks are in town, girl’s trip, freelance work or simply, it’s just cold to go outside. Each time that I put off exercising, it leads to another time I do it again…leading to another 2 weeks and then, well, I failed. At my most unhealthy, I felt defeated. I didn’t go to the gym with a friend because it wasn’t a good time for my schedule. I didn’t walk with my friend because my running shoes are uncomfortable...and it was cold out…and...and. That is where “the gully” is on the rollercoaster. It’s the part of the amusement park where the track goes underground and out of the way. You are scared, you can’t see, and you have no idea where you are. It's unsettling and unhealthy. Luckily I have great friends that have found a way to collectively help each other out. We share our exercises, our nutrition tips, and schedule time to work out together (thanks to Wilcox's "Share The Love" month). I am now on the part of the rollercoaster that is climbing up to the top. I’ve found a consistent exercise schedule that I love, I am eating healthier, and I am done making excuses. Photo credit: Ed Troscianiec Wilcox Wellness & Fitness' flexible schedule allows me to schedule any workout around a busy week. I love that I can go online and see what I have scheduled and take inventory of the number of workouts I need to finish the week. It makes it so easy. The training is also fun and the feeling after a hard workout is gratifying. I’m in a good place right now. I’m setting reasonable diet and exercise goals and I’m bumping my workouts to the top of my priorities list. I truly feel like my best self when I’m exercising consistently, so I’m holding myself accountable and plugging each time into my Google calendar with the support of my employer and my family. And you know the tippy-top of the rollercoaster where you can see the sun and look down to on the whole park? That’s where I want to stay. That downhill fall on the rollercoaster is way too scary and you don’t want to hear me scream. -Shelley _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ TRIAL Program Are you curious about our training program?
