We had such a blast talking on Good Morning Maine about our new Wilcox Wellness & Fitness Location! Wilcox Wellness & Fitness will be opening in Brunswick, Maine in January 2019. The local business owner is Allison Hopkins and she is beyond excited to make an incredible impact in her local community.
Our big vision is to empower entrepreneurs to positively impact their communities through healthy living. We believe in the ripple effect that is created when people commit to healthy living. When people commit to healthy living, they have the confidence to pursue the things that make them happy. They have the ability to ENJOY the activities that make them HAPPY again. Like playing with their kids, or hiking, or biking, or just getting up a flight of stairs without getting winded. The confidence that comes from committing to healthy living transforms people’s lives. They carry themselves differently. They have the confidence to do more meaningful work. They have the confidence to pursue the things that sets their soul on fire. This is what we are in it for. WE love what we do. The work is so rewarding. We get to see these beautiful transformations happen on a daily basis. We are beyond excited for Allison to have this positive impact in the Brunswick community.

Sarah’s House of Maine is a place of hope and healing for people receiving cancer treatments. They have saved patients over 550,000 miles of travel to and from treatments in just 3 and a half years. To date, we have donated just over $500. We are looking to grow this program and donate at least $100 on a monthly basis. Thanks to all of our clients for your check ins and thank you to Sarah’s House for the great work that you do. ❤️ Read more on our check ins for charity program here:2017 was a great year - here is our year in review! In 2017 we...

He will be sharing with you techniques to help relieve pain, workouts that you can do at home, and new techniques for feeling your absolute best. We hope you enjoy it and we hope you continue to enjoy this blog. I am looking forward catching up with you all again in April! Happy Holidays! Paige This past weekend we hosted our 3rd annual Burpees for Turkeys event to help raise money to end food insecurity in Maine. Maine ranks 7th in the nation in terms of food insecurity. 1 in 5 children in Maine live with food insecurity meaning they lack the nutritious foods to live a healthy lifestyle. As a mother, this is devastating to me. I can not imagine not having the resources to feed my child. And yes - I am that mother that carries snacks everywhere and my 3 year old knows how to hit me in the super soft spot. If he wants to delay the bedtime routine - he can say in a little voice with big eyes “but I am hungry.” I know that he is playing me but it turns me inside out every single time. Every. Single. Time. For a lot of families in our state, mothers are making the decision to keep the heat on or to feed their families. That must be an incredible struggle. Knowing that your child is truly hungry (not playing you) and not having the ability to fill their little bellies. I am so thankful for organizations like the Good Shepherd Food Bank whose mission is to end food insecurity in Maine. They are the hub that distributes the food to our local food pantries in Maine. The Good Shepherd Food Bank is doing an amazing job to help ensure these children and families have the food they need in order to live a healthy life. They have a huge focus of not only filling bellies but by providing nutritious food from local Maine Farms through their Mainers Feeding Mainers Program. Something that I am incredibly proud to support. The Good Shepherd Food Bank is able to leverage the money we raise through our Burpees for Turkeys event and stretch the dollars to do the most good. They can feed a hungry child for an entire week with just a $5 donation. Just $5 per week feeds a hungry child for an entire week. AMAZING! They can provide 4 meals to families in need with just a $1 donation. We are so proud to say that with this event, we have raised over $9,500. That is 38,097 meals for Maine families who otherwise would have been hungry. OR - enough to prevent 36 children from being hungry for an entire year. We are so thankful for the way that our community pulled together to create this kind of impact in our community. For our event this past Saturday, we had over 80 clients sign up to help raise money to end hunger in Maine. One of our clients, Tammy McLaughlin raised over $900 which translated to about 188 burpees. Now, if you don’t know what a burpee is… it can be summed up as everyone's least favorite exercise. 188 burpees is a lot of burpees. That didn’t stop Tammy from hitting the fundraising to end hunger in Maine hard, in her WABI 5 interview, she said “I am willing to do as many burpees as people will pay me to do.” She is a great sport and did an incredible job knocking out those burpees! It feels good to make an impact. Knowing that you have done something to make the world just a little bit better. I feel a strong connection towards helping end food insecurity in Maine which is why I have partnered with the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
If you don’t already, I would encourage you to find a cause that you connect with and go after it this holiday season. It could be as simple as volunteering a few hours of your time, or bringing awareness to the issue you are passionate about, or just donating a little bit of money - it can go a very long way! It is incredibly inspiring and uplifting to know that you have made a difference in the world and it is easier than you may think. You would be amazed out how much you can fill your spirit and IMPACT your community by supporting others who are in need. We have already started the planning process for Burpees for Turkeys next year and we are excited to have even more of an impact to help end hunger in Maine. Wilcox Wellness & Fitness is so proud to announce our partnership with Sarah’s House in Maine. We are excited to support Sarah's House through our Check-Ins for Charity Program where we donate to Sarah's House for each Facebook Check-in.
Sarah’s House has overwhelming support from the community at Wilcox Wellness & Fitness and we are incredibly excited to be supporting this incredible organization. Sarah’s House provides a ‘comfortable home away from home’ for cancer patients and their caregivers while they are receiving cancer treatments in the Bangor area. Sarah’s House serves people in Maine who need to travel more than 30 miles to receive their medical treatments. At Sarah’s House, patients and caregivers tap into a wonderful support community and are able to connect with others who are fighting the same fight with cancer. To date, we have donated this much money to Sarah's House through this Check-Ins for Charity Program:
We are so incredibly happy with the impact we are able to create in our local community!!!
I first learned about Sarah’s House through a Rotary presentation about a year ago. Being from a remote community in Maine, I was very moved by the amazing work that they do to support people who are traveling to receive medical treatments. I didn’t know Sarah personally but I do know that she was about my age when she was diagnosed with cancer and her daughter was about the same age as my son. I was very moved by her story and her ability to go through the most difficult time of her life and still fight to help ease the burden for others. The past few weeks we have been meeting with the organizers and board members of Sarah’s House. We are even more excited to get behind their mission, give back, and do more good.
If you have a few minutes today and want to learn more about Sarah's House- take some time to watch this video. (get the tissues ready)
Here is how our check-in for charity program works – every time a client checks in to Wilcox Wellness & Fitness on Facebook we will provide a donation to Sarah’s House. We will tally up all the check-ins on a monthly basis and cut a check directly to Sarah’s House.
We are so excited to be working on this new initiative to support Sarah’s House!
You Check-In. We Give Back. Together We Do More Good.
Happy Training! Paige & Mike Wilcox Pete Warner went through our KickStart Program about a year ago and has stuck with his training sessions for the past 365 days and has seen incredible results. Pete recently published this follow up article describing his health and fitness journey at WILCOX. “A year into this new regimen, I’m stronger and more agile. My balance has improved tremendously and I have more stamina… Doing yard work and other projects that may have once induced fatigue is now easier. Trudging through the woods on deer hunting expeditions also is more enjoyable.” states Pete in his article. It just goes to show you how much your life can change by focusing on healthy habits that are sustainable for a lifetime! Pete said it best, “The first step can be a small one, but it’s the most important one. With determination, patience, and support, a more fit and happier you is within your grasp.” Great job Pete - thank you for sharing your story! We are so excited to welcome Jake Stutzman to our team at Wilcox Wellness & Fitness. Jake started working with us through the Innovate for Maine program in June of 2016. He continued to work with us part time as he finished his final year at UMaine. Jake graduated from the University of Maine with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Marketing with a concentration in Management Information Systems.
Jake is joining us as our new Assistant Manager. This is a new role in our business and Jake will be responsible for marketing and business development. We are so excited to have Jake on board and we are looking forward to delivering more value for our clients . Jake is so excited to be working to support the mission of Wilcox Wellness & Fitness to help people enhance their lives by forming healthy habits they can sustain for a lifetime. He is looking forward to getting to know all of our clients, support their goals, and share their stories. Please join us in welcoming Jake to the Wilcox Wellness & Fitness community! Mike has always been interested in helping people live their very best life and has been putting his Community Health Degree to improve the health of our community. Mike wants more for people – he wants to show people how they can live their very best life by setting a foundation of health and fitness. Mike believes that he has the best job in the world! On a daily basis, he gets to see beautiful transformations in people. These transformations are hard earned and come when people have the confidence to fight through their fears, accomplish tasks they never before thought possible, and as a result become more confident, happy people. There is nothing better than being a part of someone else’s success! Mike is motivated by the ripple effect that comes with healthy living. Not only do the clients in the program reap enormous benefits, but all of the people that our clients come into contact with get to see a confident, happy, and healthy person that hopefully inspires them to invest time and energy in their own life. Mike personally commits to healthy living because he wants to be able to go for a hike at anytime, take an active vacation without worry, and play with my kids and grandkids without fear of injury or embarrassment. This keeps him motivated to maintain his health, and his strength and endurance. When you commit to healthy living, you are able to live your life without limitations – you can do all the things you want to do (and more)! When you are a healthy person, you are an able person – able to live your life to the very fullest. For us… this is what it is all about! Thank you Mike, for being an inspiration to us all!
