Allison Hopkins: Owner, Brunswick, ME Location
Hello! My name is Allison Hopkins, and I am the owner of Wilcox Wellness & Fitness in Brunswick, Maine. I'd like to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about what inspired me to make a career change and open Wilcox Wellness & Fitness here in Brunswick, Maine.
I have always had an interest in health & fitness. I enjoy being outside and exploring new activities that keep me active as well as discovering new recipes and ingredients to prepare healthy meals for my husband and I. But like so many people, as I grew older and became busier with my job I struggled to find the time to stay as active as I once was. Delving back into activities like I'm still 20 is usually met with aches and strains that slow my ability to fully embrace the active life style that was once a major part of my life.
I have a background in the sciences, and for more than 12 years I worked in a corporate sales job for a large scientific supply distribution company. Like many busy professionals, my work environment led to poor posture, and combined with reduced time for physical activity, it was starting to take its toll. I could hardly imagine how I might feel at 60 if I continued to feel the way I did at 40. Finding time to get to the gym is challenging, and once there I struggled to know what to do without paying the consequences of aching joints and sore muscles the next day.

It's funny how life tends to put us on a path that we aren't fully aware of until an opportunity presents itself. I worked as a technical sales specialist, supporting account managers with our more technical scientific products. Through that job I met Paige Wilcox. Paige and her husband Mike opened Wilcox Wellness & Fitness in Bangor Maine back in 2012 with the goal of making their community a healthier place. Lucky for me, Paige worked for the same company as I did for several years before joining Mike full time in their business! Through our friendship I had the opportunity watch her and Mike build their business with passion like I've never seen in anyone before. I have been so inspired by Mike & Paige and the approach that they take to helping people identify and embrace the goals that are most important to their lives, educate them on healthy habits that have a massive impact on reaching those goals, and providing an environment that is supportive, motivating and fun. They have created an approach to health & fitness that really allows people to get physically active amongst the various responsibilities of family and work. Any time I visited Bangor I'd join a training session at Wilcox Wellness & Fitness and I would feel AMAZING! I found exactly what I needed to get back on track to rebuild muscles that had been inadvertently neglected through compensated movement that I had adopted to cope with aches and pains.
In 2017 Mike & Paige were contemplating ways to expand the impact that they had in Bangor to other communities. They decided that a franchising approach was the best avenue to achieve their goal. Wilcox Wellness & Fitness - Brunswick is the first location in the new WILCOX Franchise. I am so excited to be working with Mike & Paige Wilcox to bring this amazing approach to health & Wellness to Brunswick.
I have enjoyed using the knowledge that I learned through my scientific education, the learning opportunities that I experienced in business through my corporate sales career, and my desire to help others, and applying it all in a way that I hope will inspire others to pursue their personal journey in discovering a healthier and happier life. I want to do my small part to make the community that we live in healthier, and with the ability to live life to its fullest potential. We live in such an amazingly beautiful place, and there is no greater gift that having the physical health that allows us to live every moment to its absolute fullest.
Brianna Bourassa, NASM Certified Personal Trainer
My name is Brianna Bourassa and I have always believed it is never too early or too late to start taking care of our bodies, both physically and mentally.
Exercise is not only a way to keep our body in tip top shape but also our mind. Something I learned a long time ago, and that I use now to help cope with stress, schedule my days, and help me relax. This is just one of the many reasons why I have become a certified personal trainer and earned a Bachelors degree in Nutrition and Wellness. When not in the gym I can be found outside enjoying nature. I often spend my time at the lake or up north in Jackman Maine during the summer or on the slopes snowboarding in the winter. |
I grew up in a family of excellent cooks and delicious food that grew my own love for cooking and always keeping an open mind to new flavors. I think moderation is key when going through life and it is possible to enjoy most things and still look and feel our greatest.
As a personal trainer I hope to inspire those around me to take full advantage of all of life’s opportunities. Food is fuel and we must use that fuel in the most efficient way we can.
To be able to live life how we please is a blessing and a gift we shouldn’t take for granted. I strive everyday to continue my learning and growth to offer the best version of myself to those around me. I am so excited to be a part of the Wilcox Wellness & Fitness team.
