Small acts of kindness can go a long way to making someone's day. You never know what someone else might be going through. As Don Miguel Ruiz reminds us in his book "The Four Agreements", it's important to not take anything personally. When you encounter someone who seems rude or unpleasant in some way, step back and consider that they may be going through a very difficult time that is affecting how they behave. You just don't know, and responding with kindness could be just what that person needs to brighten their day. The holidays are a funny time of year. It's a time of year when we give thanks to all that we have in our lives. We visit with friends & family. We exchange gifts and express our gratitude in various ways. But on the flip side, it's a time of year that is insanely hectic, and this can lead to mounting frustrations that leave one contemplating the spirit of the holiday season. I encourage you to be mindful of this contradiction, and consider small acts of kindness that will foster the spirit of the holidays for you, and those around you...even complete strangers! I love the idea of small acts of kindness that can make someone's day. Have you ever paid the toll for the person behind you in line on the turnpike? It's only a dollar, but it leaves one with a sense of joy for springing the surprise upon the stranger behind you. In the spirit of extending small acts of kindness now and throughout the year I wanted to share a post that I encountered recently. I came across this advent calendar and it inspired this blog post. I love these ideas. They don't take a lot of effort to extend each day. Of course it doesn't have to be the holiday season to be extending these small gestures. In fact, being mindful of these small gifts that you can give throughout the whole year will surely make the community we live in a happier place. Happy Training!
