Schaeffer Grierson joined our team in August of 2016 and we couldn’t be happier that she did! Schaeffer brings such a positive energy to everything that she does. She is 100% all in in helping our clients live their very best lives through health and fitness. Schaeffer is incredibly empathetic and compassionate as she supports people on their health and fitness journey.
Schaeffer has had her own battles with her weight. She has been overweight, she has been underweight, and she has now found true peace through healthful living. Schaeffer embarked on her own health and fitness journey because she didn’t have the energy to do the things she wanted to do in life and she just felt terrible…. The process of forming a healthy lifestyle on her own wasn’t easy and she regrets that she didn’t reach out to a coach or a trainer to help her with her transformation. She became a personal trainer because she wanted to share her story so that others didn’t have to go through the same pain she went through. Schaeffer wants everyone to know that you are not defined by a number on a scale. When you commit to healthy living – not just diet and exercise, everything in your life will improve. You will begin to see more clearly and you will have less stress. Life just gets so much better. Thank you Schaeffer!

We are so excited to celebrate Katie Norwood’s promotion to senior trainer at Wilcox Wellness & Fitness! Katie started training with us in 2013. Katie fully embraces our mission to help people enhance their lives by forming healthy habits they can sustain for a lifetime. Katie is a passionate trainer and brightens the days of anyone she interacts with. We are so proud of Katie’s hard work and dedication to helping others achieve success. Here are a few of our favorite quotes from Katie… Thank you Katie for brightening all of our days!
People have so many ideas of what trainers do, what trainers think, and what it is like to be a part of a fitness facility. It takes a lot of guts to walk in the front door.
What you might not know is that personal trainers are some of the most kind, caring, and compassionate people you will ever meet. Our BDN article is up: What your Personal Trainer wants you to know... Our senior, trainer, Katie Norwood wants you to know that trainers are not here to judge you. Schaeffer Grierson wants you to know that she is 100% on your team. Mike Wilcox wants you to know that healthy living doesn’t need to be so hard. For this post, I asked our trainer team to help me pull together a list of our favorite things that make healthy living just a little bit easier, nicer, and more enjoyable. We are channeling our inner Oprah just in time for the holidays. Here are a few of our favorite things…. Smoothies
Hanniford To Go Life is just so busy! Hanniford-to-Go makes grocery shopping a snap. Take a few minutes to build your order online (you can even save lists of items / staples you order on a regular basis) and select your pick up time. When you pick up your order, you tell Hannaford what spot you are parked in. One person comes out and takes your payment method and another starts loading your car with your groceries. You're in and out in less than 10 minutes! It's amazing! Minimalist Shoes
Dry Shampoo Essential Oils
Podcasts / Audiobooks I love listening to podcasts and audiobooks when I am doing necessary tasks that are very time consuming. Getting into a great audiobook will make your commute a snap – maybe even the best part of your day. I also find that if I am out for a long run, I love running with a good book instead of music. I find I can get lost in a story and run for much longer. Amazon Subscribe & Save I am not a shopper. I can think of a lot more fun ways to spend a Saturday than in Target for toilet paper and dish soap. This is why I have all of our household staples – set up on auto delivery through Amazon Subscribe & Save. Set it and forget it! Monthly we receive all of our household necessities delivered for free and we even get 15% off the entire order for ordering more than 5 items at a time. Electric Pressure Cooker
Farmers Markets We are so lucky in the greater Bangor area! We have wonderful options for local organic vegetables, local high quality meats, and other great local healthy food options. Here is the link to more information on the Bangor Region Farmers Markets:
http://bangorfarmersmarket.org/ There you have it! Our favorite things… What are your favorite things? Until next time…. Paige Good News! Most people are not eating enough to give them the energy to get them through their day and we are going to encourage you to eat more (of the right stuff – whole foods only please)! To maintain energy levels and keep your metabolism burning, it is important for you to be constantly fueled throughout the day. This means starting your day with a wholesome breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up and then eating every 2-3 hours to keep the fires burning. This is one of our Habits for Massive Impact – Eat Consistently Throughout the Day.
We understand that life is… SO… BUSY… and being consistent with a workout program is a challenge. When we designed our group training program we wanted to take away as many of the obstacles as possible that get in the way of people consistently making it to their training sessions. One of the biggest obstacles that we removed in our group training program was the schedule. We made the schedule very flexible and accommodating so that we could set our clients up for success. In health and fitness, consistency is the key to success. We have found that people who commit to training with us for just 3, 30 minute sessions per week get incredible results. Think about that – could you commit yourself to just 3 – 30 minute sessions per week? That is 0.89% of your week. You need just 0.89% of your week to achieve your health and fitness goals. The secret and the magic is in consistency. Life happens and things come up – meetings run late, the kids get sick, and your planned workout gets put to the bottom of list. Our group training program is set up so that you can re-book for a later session with just an hours notice. Consistency is the key to great results! In our group training program, we have 60+ sessions to choose from, 6 days a week with times ranging from early morning, mid-morning, afternoon, mid-afternoon, and evening. You only need to register for your session one hour in advance and you don’t need to register for the same session each week. We have 3 categories of workouts to choose from: · Group Personal Training · Boot Camp · TRX / Kettlebell Here is a sample of what our group training schedule looks like: All training sessions are run by certified personal trainers who are invested in your success. Our trainers ensure that you are using proper form, keeping you safe, confident and comfortable as you are working out. Workouts are modified so each ability level can make the most out of each session. The workouts are different every single time – all you need to do is show up, and our trainer team will take care of the rest for you. We use compound movement which gets great results fast. We don’t believe that you should be sending your life in the gym so our workouts are designed to get you in, get you out, and get you back to your fabulous life. Happy Training!

We are so excited to welcome Schaeffer to our trainer team here at Wilcox Wellness & Fitness. Schaeffer is originally from Texas but fell in love with Maine a few years ago. For the last 2 years, Schaeffer has been on her own health and fitness journey and has successfully lost 80 pounds. Throughout this journey, she fell in love with fitness and nutrition and wants to share that gift with the world. This is why in January of 2016, she became certified as a personal trainer. We are so excited to have Schaeffer join our team – we are confident that she has the talent, the knowledge, and the experience to share the gift of healthy living with our community. |
Below is Schaeffer's Story...
When I first heard about Wilcox Wellness and Fitness and explored the website I immediately felt a sense of excitement that my career could possibly land me somewhere that took so much pride in what they do. Throughout my interview I was nervous as whether or not I should share my personal story to Paige and Mike but as we continued to talk they easily made my feel like it was okay. I was then able to share my struggles which I can now say they have become my strengths without feeling any judgment from Paige or Mike. I definitely see my past as a tool I can use during my career.
The mission of Wilcox Wellness and Fitness is to “help people enhance their lives by forming healthful habits that are sustainable for a lifetime” is really something I can relate to. Throughout my weight loss there was a long struggle of living a life with habits that were most definitely unsustainable for a lifetime. From the time I woke up to the time I went to bed my thoughts were consumed by the calories in every item entering my mouth and whether or not I would be happy about the number that appeared on the scale throughout the entire day. The anxiety, the stress and the feeling of being absolutely alone is something I would never wish upon anyone. As I look back at my struggle I can definitely say it has become a sort of strength.
During my time with Wilcox Wellness and Fitness I hope to be able to share the importance of the 80/20 lifestyle and how huge it can be. For over a year I deprived myself of treats, nights out with friends, and even the simple things such as how much milk could go into my coffee. If there was a moment with food involved I had my measuring cups ready and was not going to eat anything until I knew the caloric information. Friends quickly stopped inviting me out knowing I would just say no. I was alone, I was internally battling demons and was not living a happy life.
As a trainer I see my past as a great tool that I can use with clients at Wilcox Wellness and Fitness. I can put myself in their shoes, I have been out of shape, I have been overweight, I have struggled with my relationship to food, and I have been the person who truly did not understand what “clean eating” meant. My first time stepping into a workout facility I was clueless I did not know what I was doing. Quickly into my journey I fell in love with the process and was constantly reading anything I could get my hands onto about the fitness world I went from just stationary biking to building my own routines to follow. I spent hours learning about nutrition and what the best way to fuel my body would be, I ate vegetables! Which is a huge deal for me because I spent 23 years saying “I hate green foods”. When my love for my own fitness journey became a passion I knew I wanted to become a personal trainer.
I became a personal trainer because I want to be the person I never had for someone else. I wanted to know as much as I could so that anyone seeking a healthy lifestyle would not have to spend the hours researching and reading conflicting articles. I have been where you are as a client and if I can say one thing it would be to not give up, believe in yourself, listen to your body, your trainers and the results truly will come, you will be able to live a happy life with habits that you can carry on throughout your life and share with everyone around you.
I definitely believe in and 100% support the atmosphere Wilcox has to offer, a place where your weight doesn’t matter but how you feel is the most important factor. I loved being able to see a consultation go from “I want to lose weight” to “I want to feel free to be active with my kids” all because Paige had the right words to say to really get the client to say what they truly wanted all along and that was to be able to move freely without pain and to keep up with their children.
At the end of the day everyone’s personal best is only temporary and I cannot wait to be apart of the team to see all the client’s journeys unfold. I am eager and ready to continue learning and practicing so that tomorrow I can be a trainer who exemplifies what is is to have habits that can be sustained for a lifetime.
Schaeffer is currently in our new trainer onboarding program, learning about all of our systems, methods and processes and she will be all trained up and ready to accept clients in early October.
