Unilateral DB Bent Row w/ Slide - Movement of the Week

There are a few crucial elements to this deceiving little exercise! The first and most important thing you can do here is set your posture & do your very best to maintain it throughout the small rotation. Secondly, you will notice Katie does a very small rowing motion with her arm. Once her upper arm is parallel to her torso, she stops rowing. This allows her to better rotate from the ribcage, which is the ultimate goal of this basic exercise.

Another key to success is pressing firmly into the front foot. This will most likely be the most deceiving part of the exercise when done correctly. The front leg will be on fire! Do your best to focus on the glutes and hamstrings of the front leg by 'pulling' the floor back.
​
Finally, pushing the dowel or the barbell into the wall while performing the entire motion will help you feel the torso rotating. This will help you keep your lat activated, your shoulder away from your spine, where we want it, thus making you strong like bull!
12/20/21 date - Unilateral DB Bent Row w/ Slide - Movement of the Week Explainer by Paige Wilcox

Here's your checklist:

1. Long spine in the bent-over position
2. Push dowel into the wall
3. Slowly rotate the torso as you slightly row the dowel
4. As you rotate the torso, slide the leg back
5. Press through the front foot the entire movement.

I was doing some research and I came across this list of America’s Top New Year’s Resolutions for 2021 and I noticed the list was the same for 2020 and 2019 and 2018 and it will likely be the same for 2022.

People want to:

- Exercise more
- Eat healthier
- Spend more time with family
- Lose weight

That is why we are in the process of creating a 30-day challenge for couples to help you move better, feel better, and be more connected with each other.

We did it! We raised $11,500 this year for the Good Shepherd Food Bank with Burpees for Turkeys!

​Mike and I just wanted to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to Burpees for Turkeys this weekend.

We had a blast with you all at the event and we hope that you did too. Together, with our amazing team in Brunswick, we raised over $11,500 to help with hunger relief in Maine. That brings the total fundraising tally of Burpees for Turkeys to $65,311. AMAZING!

We are just so proud of the impact this community is able to create with programs like this.

I want to send a special thank you to Matt and Shirar from the United Way for helping streamline the online donation processing and for their help the day of the event.

Thank you to the Good Shepherd Food Bank for all they do to help with hunger-relief in Maine. It still blows my mind that 1 in 5 children in Maine live with food insecurity and I am so thankful for all the work that GSFB does to help with this huge issue.

Thank you to Shannon and the rest of our team who put in a lot of work to have this event go smoothly.

Most importantly, thank YOU for joining together to raise money and awareness to help with the effort of ending food insecurity in Maine.

Mike and I feel so blessed that you all have chosen to be part of our community here at Wilcox Wellness & Fitness and it is events like this that remind us how lucky we are to know each and every one of you.

Overcoming Mom Guilt

I recently had a long chat with a client who is absolutely crushing it and it broke my heart.

Direct quote:

“I want to keep working toward my goals … but I feel like it is time that I am taking away from my family."

This feeling is SO COMMON this time of year – the mom/wife/husband/parent guilt is fo-real.

You work so hard for your loved ones because their well-being is important to you. It can feel selfish to take time or money for yourself.
