We did it! We raised $11,500 this year for the Good Shepherd Food Bank with Burpees for Turkeys!12/13/2021
Mike and I just wanted to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to Burpees for Turkeys this weekend.
We had a blast with you all at the event and we hope that you did too. Together, with our amazing team in Brunswick, we raised over $11,500 to help with hunger relief in Maine. That brings the total fundraising tally of Burpees for Turkeys to $65,311. AMAZING! We are just so proud of the impact this community is able to create with programs like this.
I want to send a special thank you to Matt and Shirar from the United Way for helping streamline the online donation processing and for their help the day of the event.
Thank you to the Good Shepherd Food Bank for all they do to help with hunger-relief in Maine. It still blows my mind that 1 in 5 children in Maine live with food insecurity and I am so thankful for all the work that GSFB does to help with this huge issue. Thank you to Shannon and the rest of our team who put in a lot of work to have this event go smoothly. Most importantly, thank YOU for joining together to raise money and awareness to help with the effort of ending food insecurity in Maine. Mike and I feel so blessed that you all have chosen to be part of our community here at Wilcox Wellness & Fitness and it is events like this that remind us how lucky we are to know each and every one of you. Sending lots of love from our family to yours - Paige & Mike Wilcox WANT MORE OF THIS? Be sure to connect with us on Social Media. Happy November! I just wanted to give you an update on some of our ongoing charitable giving efforts. We are committed to developing programs to support our community and we believe that TOGETHER, we do more good.
We currently have 2 charitable giving programs that occur on a monthly basis: 1 - Our Greatest Gift Referral Program where we donate $10 to a local charitable organization for each referral you send us. 2 - Our not-so-talked-about Check-Ins for Charity Program where we donate to Sarah's House every time you check-in on Facebook. Hazen and I explained everything for you here in this video:
Here is the down and dirty if you prefer to read rather than listen:

I am so excited that we have partnered with United Way to help us 'do the most good' with the money that we contribute through the new Greatest Gift Referral Program. Through this program, we donate $10 for each person that is referred to us. Last month, we had 18 referrals in Bangor, so we have $180 to give. We also gave Emily Howe (one of our clients who referred 6 people to the program) a $100 gift certificate to Timber Kitchen & Bar in Bangor. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support - it means the world to us and we are so honored to be able to help your friends and family along their health and fitness journey. Shirar Patterson is the CEO of United Way of Eastern Maine and here is a recording of our recent call. This month, we will be contributing $180 to Keep ME Warm - this is a fund for heating assistance for people in our local community.
Through United Way, we are able to learn about all of the amazing organizations and initiatives in our community and find ways to make a positive impact. I am so very excited about this partnership! <3 Paige WANT MORE OF THIS? Be sure to connect with us on Social Media. We can't wait to connect with you and support you along your journey with healthy living! We are beyond excited to welcome Ben Bunnell to our training team in Bangor, Maine. Ben grew up on a farm in Vermont and received his bachelors degree in Exercise Science and Coaching Certification from Colby-Sawyer College in 2016. He brings with him 3 year’s experience coaching at several gyms in New England. Ben has a passion for exercise – he has been an athlete his entire life and enjoys challenging and pushing himself physically. He believes this is what gives him the confidence to go after his biggest goals. When we asked Ben how he planned on delivering on the vision, mission, and goals of Wilcox Wellness & Fitness, this was his response: I will embrace the mission and core values of Wilcox Wellness & Fitness by integrating them into my own life and fitness journey first. By practicing what I teach, I hope to emulate these values and mission statement rather than simply adhere to them. Thankfully, my background in athletics has taught me a lot about working in a positive team environment and therefore has prepared me to embrace these values wholeheartedly. Working as a team and supporting each other’s goal is crucial for a constructive group training environment. During my sessions with client’s I like to point out what they are doing well. I would like to implement client’s doing the same with their teammates within the session. I believe this will help reinforce good form/technique as well as create an environment in which everyone feels noticed and appreciated. In turn, I believe this will also influence another core value, enthusiastic pride. A space in which everyone feels celebrated and supported is one that is easy to feel proud and enthusiastic about. Getting client’s to continuously improve can be challenging because people are often scared to fail at something. Hopefully, pointing out what clients are doing well will make this less of a daunting task. During my sessions, I want to make a progression an even more positive accomplishment. Progressing an exercise to an increased range of motion, weight, ect. will always be the goal and will be met with encouragement and congratulations. A progression, PR, or goal board would be a great way to encourage Kaizen. This will ensure that there is always continuous improvement for clients. I will encourage clients to “take action” and let me know if a weight or an exercise isn’t challenging them enough. Creating a space where that communication can happen will encourage hard work and, conversely, will encourage clients to speak up if an exercise is bothering them. I want to make my sessions upbeat and motivating enough that people want to put their heart into it. The sessions I work the hardest in are sessions that I work out with a friend, the music is good, we are doing exercises we like or trying new ones, and we both have fun. People put their hearts into the things they have fun doing, so in order to get that heart hustle training needs to be enjoyable. I think ample support, a good playlist, and continuously making new exercises will foster the proper setting for heart hustle to happen. I hope to instill lifelong, sustainable fitness goals and enhance my clients lives by embedding these core values in every single one of my training sessions while applying the knowledge and experience I have gained from my degree. These core values implemented with years of education will certainly lead to positive client outcomes and continuous improvement. I look forward to introducing these values into my own personal life to better represent them in my training sessions. Welcome Ben! We are so happy you have found your home here with us! Paige & Mike Wilcox We are BEYOND excited to welcome Xander Karris to Wilcox Wellness & Fitness for his summer fellowship through the Innovate for Maine Program. Xander is our 4th Innovate for Maine Fellow and we are so excited to be working with him to help make more of an impact in the communities that we support. Xander brings with him excitement and enthusiasm for problem solving and is currently pursuing a degree in social/abnormal psychology with minors in business administration and innovation engineering. From Xander: Hi, my name is Alexander Karris, but you can call me Xander (pronounced like ‘Zander’). I’m an Innovate for Maine fellow and was lucky enough to have been paired with Wilcox Wellness & Fitness for my summer fellowship. During my time here, I’ll be helping expand our marketing strategy, and developing and innovating our franchise program. I’m currently a senior at the University of Maine, in Orono, where I’m pursuing a degree in social/abnormal psychology with minors in business administration and innovation engineering. I also have an honors concentration, which will allow me to conduct primary research on social media use in college students for my thesis the next two semesters. Wherever my future takes me, I want to help people solve their problems. As an innovator, it's directed towards whomever is benefitting from the product or service I'm creating or helping to create. As a psychologist, it's by identifying faulty cognitions or maladaptive behaviors, and helping to create solutions to increase people’s well-being and life satisfaction. No matter the project or person, I love helping others reach their goals. You’ll find me greeting you with a smile at the front desk, or walking around the facility, recording all of the hard work you’ll be putting in with our dedicated trainers. I hope to see you soon! We are so proud to be voted the Best Fitness Facility in Bangor, Maine for 2 years running!5/14/2019
We are so proud to be the winner of the Best Fitness Facility in Bangor, Maine for 2 years running – but really ‘winning’ for us means:
We don’t always get it right, but we are constantly working on getting better. So – tell us, what can we do to serve you better? Much Love, Wilcox Wellness & Fitness We are BEYOND excited to welcome Adam Allen to our trainer team. Adam brings with him nearly 10 years of experience in the health and fitness industry and is super passionate about helping people live their very best lives. We can already feel that Adam is going to be a great fit for our community. From Adam:Hi, my name is Adam Allen and I am an ACSM certified personal trainer with nearly 10 years experience in fitness starting back when I was a physical training leader in the United States Air Force. After serving active duty in special operations I went back to school earning my Degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in fitness and wellness from Salem State University.
Being a personal trainer has been without a doubt one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Not only have I helped many people succeed in losing the weight and feeling better, but more importantly, the personal growth and self-confidence that comes with being more fit has been what’s truly not only changed the life of those I’ve trained, but for me as well. Delivering results and helping people to feel better about themselves and their workouts is what I love to do. I hope to make working out as fun and stress free experience as possible. Specializing in strength training, functional training, sport specific training, core exercise, and circuit training, I am an advocate of keeping people moving, getting their heart rates up, and increasing muscular strength. Remember, there is certainly truth to the saying that there is no elevator to success, only stairs. I look forward to meeting you and continuing the tradition of making healthier lifestyles. I truly love what I do and I am very excited to be a part of the WILCOX team! Happy Training! Wilcox Wellness & Fitness WILCOX Brunswick has launched their new training program with Training for a Cause - free group training sessions (with a donation to MidCoast Humane).
