The key to progress is doing the little things very well. If you want to train better, you have no choice. The time you spend on the fundamentals, laying your foundation, dictates how you feel before you train, while you train, and after your train. Here you will see our team starting off our weekly training doing the basics. We practice the basics before every session to remind ourselves what is most important. When we dive into the complicated movements while trying to maintain the connection, our focus on foundation wins every time. Every time. This week’s Trainers Training Trainers (TTT) had us trying some new movements. Footwork, Core Engagement, and Posture are our foundation. With each practice round, you can feel things come together, movements become smooth, and confidence rises. Our team has been hammering the foundations for months to even attempt some of these movements & it’s leading to massive gains in how our bodies are feeling. You never know how much you appreciate your everyday life until everything changes! Hello, COVID-19... Simple things... like a high five from your trainer, a training session in the gym, running to the grocery store for milk, or having 3 minutes of peace to yourself. (I'm talking to all the moms out there...) I don’t know about you, but I’ve found myself feeling all the feels as a result of all the things... When we got home from Costa Rica, I made a commitment to myself to double down as much as possible on my healthy habits, which always helps me feel more balanced and in control of my life. It’s made such a big difference because it has given me a SOLID FOUNDATION to operate from! When you have a firm foundation, it helps you to be PROACTIVE vs. REACTIVE. On a practical level, that means that every day, I make sure that I follow the habits for massive impact - nourish myself well, drink my water, and train at least 3 times per week. I am also trying to squeeze in a little extra time for myself - sometimes that means 5am coffee with my husband before the kids get up, or sneaking away to read. It’s had huge payoffs - when I am on point with these healthy habits, I feel more in control, I have more energy, I am a better mom and wife, and life seems more manageable. Although the movements in this video are unconventional, my body has never felt more connected to the way humans are supposed to move. We were built to walk, to run, and to throw, this is our evolution. Unfortunately, the last century of innovation has taken us far from our natural human capabilities and replaced it with a more sedentary lifestyle. Our bodies now have important, functional muscles that are underutilized in combination with important, functional muscles that are overutilized in unintended ways. So simple and so profound. We are not always going to feel like doing the thing that we know is going to get us to where we want to go but the more times that we can show up and be consistent and keep the promise to ourselves, the more momentum we are going to build in all other areas of our life. It is so easy to make so many excuses - my house is a disaster, my floors are dirty, the kids are going to climb all over me... Trust me... I have been there. But these excuses are all so small and they only hold us back from living the life that we dream of. So friends... just show up.
