Health and Fitness is no joke - Take it from a clown
#MattsStory is his journey (and rant) with Health and Fitness​

Hello to all, First off I would like to introduce myself, I am Matt Oakes, which to most probably means
nothing, to some, hopefully something good. Some people know me as Ty-Dy, as this is my clown name, I am also a shrine clown, known by many.
Well I have decided after too long, at the tender age of 55, I would try to do something with my health,
for to many years I have done absolutely nothing, except for what I called the normal stuff, going to
work, and doing the things that I enjoy doing, eating, going to functions, watching the grandkids play,
going Ice fishing, snow sledding and motorcycle riding, amongst many other things.

Now the problem 
arises, after a couple of mishaps and nature doing what it does best, make us age, and sometimes not gracefully, I have found myself in not so very good of shape, with a weight problem, 2 bad knees and a lifestyle that was slowly slipping into what I would call sedentary.

Life as I had known it is slipping from 
my grasp, my energy levels have depleted rather quickly, my weight is out of control, I am not doing all the things that I used to do, Parades have stopped, standing for more than a few hours at a time is really hurting, so things like playing with the grandkids has slowed down, ice fishing is limited even riding my motorcycle is coming to a halt.

Well if any of you have felt this way or noticed any of these changes in 
yourself, get moving, I did not pay attention to it and if and when I did notice it, it had snuck up behind me and hit me with a hammer.

It was almost too late.


Now don’t get me wrong I had seen my weight coming on for years, I had tried several different diets
and food supplements, and yes it all works to an extent but, beware it only works as long as you stay on it, as with anything the moment you stop doing the whatever it is diet, supplements, drinks, shakes, the weight comes back on. And sometimes more.

Well here is what I have decided to do, after some talks with Paige and Katie, from Wilcox Wellness &
Fitness at a health fair that my work had sponsored, I decided that I could probably take charge of my
life and try to reverse some of the damage I had done to my body, because I had said earlier that it was almost too late, it is never too late to start and today is as good as a day as any, don’t wait too long, as it does not magically get better.

Well let me tell you after my first initial visit I was excited, really excited to get into this next journey or chapter of this book I call life, I was so psyched up it was unbelievable, so I went and bought new
sneakers, new workout wear and came into this with a new attitude of oh yeah I can beat this.


After my second session of actual physical training with the coaches I said to myself “ what the hell am I
doing to myself” this is physically killing me!! Wow I had never been so worn out or beat up in my life, of
course I have never been in this bad of shape before in my life because in all reality it may have not
been that brutal, but I am so far out of shape I can’t do the “Normal” anymore, but I said I made it
through it lets look at the next training session, hmm… that was tough also just the warm up was
getting me tired and sweaty, holy cow am I going to be able to do this?? Well 4 sessions the first week
just about killed me not literally but WOW...I had worked out!! I got one week down, now lets go get the
next 3 weeks.

Week 2 was not much easier, I had mentioned that I would be glad when this would finally get easier
and the coaches kind of chuckled and said they would not be doing their jobs if it got easier, they would push me more every week as I grew more stronger they would try to get me to the next level, so would it get easier? Yeah some of the stuff would come easier but I would be pushed and after several weeks now I am in the same boat, still walk away after a session feeling beat, but I know AI know have 5 weeks under my belt and I am feeling better and doing things that I could not possibly do in my first week.

And the nutrition side of it is so easy for me, as I was told if it had a mother or father or come from the
ground it is good, except for a few things, no need for boxed stuff. I am learning, still a lot to learn and so far I feel as though I can sustain this type of eating lifestyle, heck I can even have bacon in moderation!!

Life is 
good so far, stay tuned for next months rant!!
