The irony of owning a personal training business is that it can be hard to find time to fit in your own training sessions…
There was a time early in our business when I would sit in my office and say - I will go to the 9am… I will go to the 10am, after I finish this email series, after this meeting, I will go to the 11am session…. All the way until 5pm when I had to scramble to pick up my kids before they turned into pumpkins at childcare. Everything changed for me when I started taking 3 minutes on a Sunday to actually put my training session on my calendar. Now I am able to treat these sessions just like any other meeting I have on my calendar and I am able to show up in a more relaxed and intentional way - even getting my PreTraining done. Your turn! Feeling stressed? Research suggests that magnesium can help your body cope better.
Some of the top food sources of magnesium are leafy greens, nuts, and cacao… and this recipe has all three! TIP: This makes for a delicious light lunch, but if you want a boost of protein, add in some grilled chicken or smoked salmon. Strawberry-Arugula Salad (makes 2 servings) Salad:
Whisk together the dressing ingredients. Taste and adjust the seasonings. Drizzle some of the dressing over the salad and toss well to coat. Sprinkle with the cacao nibs and nuts. Add a little more dressing if desired. Serve and enjoy! An open letter to the busy professional who can’t remember the last time they felt 100%...5/11/2023
Is it just me, or is 45 minutes with a punching bag or slamming a ball the perfect cure for a day where nothing went right? I love seeing our clients harness their inner Rocky Balboa to get rid of all of their frustrations, relieve stress, and get their head right. There is literally a difference in people's energy between when they gym and when they exit. How do you get rid of your frustrations?
How many things have you complained about today that are part of the life you dreamed of for years?I know I’m guilty of grumbling about the hustle and the constant truffle shuffle that comes with owning a business and having a young family. All we need is perspective, friends! These days, this life, this business, these incredible children is something that I could only dream of!What’s one thing you’re lucky enough to complain about?
Funny story… I was in a consultation with a new client recently. This is part of our onboarding process - where you meet with me (or Allison if you are in Brunswick) for an hour and we talk all about you, your goals, what could get in your way of achieving your health and fitness goals - the works. It’s a pretty intensive coaching session.
I was giving this woman all of my very best advice around health and fitness. Somehow the topic of ice cream came up and I told her that I too, love ice cream… but not just any old ice cream. If I am going to have a treat, it has got to be the dugout floor sundae from Fielder’s Choice. (They happen to have locations in both Bangor and Brunswick - it’s fate!) This woman had not taken a single note around all of my strategies for drinking more water, planning her schedule to make it to her training sessions, etc… But… believe you me… she dug right into her purse for my ice cream sundae suggestion. Bahahahahahaha… We had a really good laugh - I told her you can’t leave this meeting with one piece of advice on paper and that being where to get an ice cream sundae. So… that is what I am known for now. Tell me - are you into Fielder’s Choice Ice Cream too or are you more of a Giffords person? Here is my best advice for achieving literally anything you want in life:
JUST SHOW UP. So often we want to only show up if we can give 110% and what happens is that we kill ourselves trying so hard in that big effort. We never live up to the expectations of perfection that we set for ourselves. I know that if you can shift your mindset to: JUST SHOW UP. that you will be successful in the long term. Why? Because people who just show up are consistent. And, consistency wins every single time. The more you show up, the more steady your progress will be towards your health and fitness goals. So - on the days when you 'aren't feeling it' - show up anyway - give what you've got - even if it is only 2% and I promise showing up will pay off big time in the future. |
