We’ve been pushing our clients at the gym recently to become more connected to their bodies and how they move. Learning anything new is a process. If what you are learning has value to you, it is a worthwhile process. In this case, learning better body mechanics leads to better movement in everyday life, which leads to LESS PAIN and MORE FUN. The moments that you are struggling the most, feeling frustrated, or ready to give up are the times you will learn the most. Getting over that hump leads to the results you desire to have in your life. It’s okay not to be great at something, especially when you think you “should” be.
It is quite difficult and can lead our clients to feel like they “can’t” do certain things. It can also lead to frustration or feeling like they are not doing a good job (Remember, your success is in your effort, not being perfect or doing things perfectly). This is not the case. In fact, I was having this conversation just a couple of weeks ago with a few clients. We were practicing some new movements, they were difficult, and not all of our efforts were perfectly successful. The expectation of the group seemed to be that they all should have been able to do a better job at the new exercises. I explained to them that I and the trainer team have been practicing these movements for months and are still finding challenges along the way. Essentially, it’s okay to struggle. In fact, I told them that I was glad they were struggling because it means they are learning, growing, and therefore making progress! Be patient, Keep the faith, and trust the process. Easier said than done. But if you really think about anything you’ve learned in your life, for most things, they took a long time. Learning your body, teaching it to perform better, making connections with movement is a process. TRUST THE PROCESS. BE PATIENT. KEEP FAITH.
