Interns Mitch and Luke led TTT (Trainers Training Trainers) this week. Wednesday was the last day of their internship and they were ready to put the skills they have learned in the past few weeks to the test. ​

They both love basketball, so it only made sense to teach a basketball themed TTT. Starting with Luke’s warm-up, the group did some side shuffle drills and some quick passing work to get a sense for the speed required for the workout.

​Afterwards, Mitch had a technique circuit set up for the group to try to accomplish. He stressed that it was less important to be able to do all the specific basketball moves, and more important to be able to do the basic move at each station, like wall sits, balance on a Bosu ball, or hold a lunge.


​


​It only took a few seconds for everyone to realize that they aren’t professional basketball players for a reason. Nash soon resorted to rolling the ball back and forth across the ground under his legs while holding a wall sit, instead of dribbling it.

The next part of the workout was a speed and shooting drill. The group was split into two teams: Nash and Katie Rey, and Nick and Katie N. They were supposed to start at a midline and one person would run to the hoop and take a shot while the other person sprinted to the end of the room and back, then they’d switch until each person took 5 shots on the hoop. Whichever team finished first was the winner. Katie N. and Nick won two games in a row.

Moving on to a new game, kind of like basketball suicides, the teams raced one person at a time to a cone, back to the wall, to a further cone, back to the wall, and to an even further cone and back to the wall (all while dribbling), to shoot the ball and pass it on to their partner. Once each person shot 3 times, the winning team was declared by the last person back to the wall.

​The last game was a shooting drill where the two people on each team had to take turns shooting until a total of 5 shots were made. The first team to get 5 shots in was the winner. The teams were Nash and Katie N against Nick and Katie Rey. Katie Rey and Nick won both games, with no need to do a tie breaker. The losing team each time had to do 10 burpees, but Katie N said, “I actually like burpees,” so we aren’t really sure how effective the punishment for losing was.

​The group maintained good spirits while they tried their best. Katie Rey. said at one point, “I quit basketball in 1st grade because no one would pass me the ball….and I started doing cartwheels instead and then I was a cheerleader all through high school.” Katie N. said, “yeah I'm not basketball inclined.” While there were a few moments like these of joking around, the group was very competitive during the team competitions.

Mitch and Luke admitted with smiles on their faces at the end of the session, that it was, “nice to see the trainers sweat.”
​

Positive attitudes, motivation, smiles, determination, and a little (or a lot of) sweat got the group through the workout.
